The name Yajai may not mean much to you, but for this delicious Astoria Thai restaurant, it is a tribute to true love. Named after the owner’s wife, Yajai shows a strong commitment to healthy food and offers a large selection of vegetarian options.
After eating at Yajai you will not only fall in love with their deliciously authentic and varied menu, but also the friendly family working tirelessly to prepare your food just as they would eat it themselves.
Duck with Ginger Honey Sauce—Boneless young Long Island duck with sauce made fresh and spicy from fresh ginger, sweet pepper, onion, black mushroom, carrot and black bean
Fillet of Catfish with Sautéed Green Peppercorn—Small fresh catfish with eggplant, string bean, sweet pepper, mushroom, garlic, lime leaves, basil leaves and green peppercorn in sweet chili paste
Yajai Grilled Chicken—Thai-style marinated chicken with herbs, garlic and special seasoning; served with Thai salad
Seafood Black Pepper—New Zealand mussels, shrimps, scallops and sautéed squid with lime leaves, green peppercorn, garlic and chili pepper in heavy crushed black pepper and Thai spices
Pineapple Fried Rice—With flavor of cashew, pea, carrot, egg, onion and tomato
Pad Thai—The most popular stir-fried noodle dish with egg, bean curd, ground peanut, sweet radish, bean sprout and scallion
If this place was much better, it would achieve mediocrity. I'm surprised, because it has been there for so long and most thai places are reasonable, it's rare to find a bad one....but this is it.

FAST and delicious green curry. Needed a larger portion of rice, though.

I normally love this place. I usually get the spicy noodle soup which is as close to good ramen as I have found in astoria. It's great with the rice noodles which are boxed separately and then you get to add the soup to the noodles so soup stays really hot. I also ordered the coconut rice which was so burned it was inedible. So frustrating and gross that I felt I had to warn others off.

This is my go-to Thai place. They usually deliver real fast, and their Pad Thai is not to be messed with. Despite the fact that I have a second stomach used exclusively for storing Pad Thai, they densely pack enough into those little plastic containers that it leaves me satisfied every time. I wish there was a little free soup on the side or something sometimes (I know one place that includes a free desert) but other than that I'm all about Yajai

Hands down the best thai food in Astoria. Meals are inexpensive and portions are huge! I always have enough leftover for lunch the next day. Lots of vegetarian / vegan options including the mock duck, panaang curry and tofu soup.

The food was bland and the seitan was scary. However, I did not get sick...

Lunch special portions are small. You get what you pay for. Not terribly flavorful, but not awful.

Yajai is not only my favorite Thai place in Astoria, it's my favorite place I've ever eaten it. I bring people from all over here when they come to town. Very rarely do you get enough bang for the buck at a Thai restaurant but at Yajai you do. I highly dought you'll ever walk away without more than enough food. Not only are the portions great the food is fantastic. Order a curry and you are solid gold. Veggie spring rolls, Mango Avocado Salad, or a Pineapple Fried Rice are all favorites of mine too. Plus they have so many Vegetarian options! Fresh ingredients cooked and spiced to perfection with great service from the nicest employees. Once after I picked up an order from the storefront an employee came running after me a block and a half away because she realized they left out a box of rice! Order from Yajai because you won't regret it.

I love the Tom Yum soup, but everything else I have had tastes the same. I have tried several dishes (Pad Thai, Pad See Eew, Basil Chicken) that I have had and enjoyed at several other Thai Restaurants. Unfortunately, non of these dishes have come close to comparing to other Thai restaurants I've eaten at. I do stop by for some Tom Yum soup when I am feeling under the weather and it usually hits the spot. I wish I enjoyed it more seeing as they have great prices on lunch specials and very speedy delivery.

My favorite Thai take-out in Astoria. Quick delivery, and they call you back if they've run out of something (like the awesome coconut ice cream). Massaman curry is one of my favorites. Husband likes anything with the squid!

Great flavors and good sized portions for your money. This is the best thai place I've eaten at in Astoria!

Most of their dishes are spicy so if you like it hot then this is the place. They also cater to the less adventurous and will accommodate if you ask for it mild or not spicy. Their pineapple Thai sausage rice is fantastic as are all of their dishes. Seafood is really fresh.

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!! They always screw up your order and don't offer replacements. You order one item, get another and your stuck with it. They also change their ingredients all the time and not update the menu so even if you have ordered something once doesn't mean it will be the same the next time. Order from Red Basil instead.

Avoid. I'm not that picky, and I almost never review restaurants like this, but I ordered from this place today and could not eat it. Three bites, and $15 down the drain. It tasted like it had been cooked in a dirty pan with ingredients on the verge of needing to be thrown out. Disgusting.

We shopped around and this is our favorite Thai place in Astoria. The food is great, the portion size is generous, the prices are good, and they deliver fast!

Amazing, authentic Thai food.

Very disappointed. My soup and salad should have their name changed to Onion Soup and Onion Salad. There is so much onion in these dishes, I won't have any onion for the rest of the year. The delivery guy held my food upside down, so there was soup all over inside the bag. He was on his cell phone the entire time, and didn't bother to get off while handing me the receipt needed to be signed. Too bad I added the tips during checkout. Final thought? Won't order again from them.

Excellent pad see ew and singapore noodles. By far, the most authentic Thai delivery available in Astoria.

This place does not deserve any stars as far as I'm concerned. The food was fine but the service was terrible. This is a DELIVERY system. Ideally, the consumer has food delivered for their convenience to be able to stay at home and have the food brought to their door. This place sent a delivery guy that called and refused to come into the building. I had to meet this guy ON THE STREET to get my food. When I got my shoes on, walked down 4 flights of stairs and met him, he asked me to sign for the order. BUT! - imagine this - HE DOESN'T HAVE A PEN ON HIM! So I have to walk up 4 flights to get my OWN pen from my apartment, sign the paper, and then walk back down to get the food. When I get there again, he says I signed in the wrong place (mind you, there was no designated place to sign). BACK up to the 4th floor for more of the same. When I finally get my food, I called the restaurant to complain about 1) the delivery guy making come meet him in the street (not even in the lobby) and 2) him not carrying a pen on him for a credit card delivery. The clueless person answering the phone could not comprehend that I was calling to complain about the delivery guy. Instead, she kept asking what I wanted to order. Again. And again. And again. Finally, I asked to speak to someone else so because I had a complaint. The person on the other end of the phone said, "Oh, a complaint! What did you order? What was wrong with food?" I reiterated that I was not calling to complain about the food. I was calling to complain about the delivery service. All the person on the other end of the phone kept saying was "What was wrong with food? What was wrong with curry?" Again. And again. And again. I ended up just hanging up because obviously the complaint was not going to register with this person. The food is decent but I will never order from them again based on the miserable experience of a lazy, ill prepared delivery guy and an incompetant person answering the phones.
